Gambling is legal in one state in , the state of Goa. You can also play bingo games there. The state of Goa, a former Portuguese colony, is a coastal state with many picturesque sandy beaches. It is also the gambling capital of since it is the only locale in the nation where there is one floating casinos in operation and five hotels that offer slot machines. The government has recently given approval for ten more floating casinos since they are such a tourist attraction. The state already draws over a million tourists a year during the peak season, which outnumbers the state’s population. Like other places in the world, Goa is trying to capture some of the casino gambling dollars that tourists are so eager to spend.

Goa wants the tourist and gambling dollars associated with the casinos, but they do not want the accompanying problems.  They already complain about the high rate of crime and that there coastal area is being purchased with drug money.  They don’t want to attract the Las Vegas style mega resorts to the area. The government says it wants to keep the casinos smaller and their intention is not to encourage online gambling. They are currently entertaining proposals from six different groups for the water based casinos in the area. 

Gao is already a seaside resort area with posh five-star hotels attracting a large number of visitors. Like other areas that begin with floating casinos, they probably will eventually allow more land-based activity.  The beauty of the area lends itself to development.
