Bob Stupak was born in 1942 and like so many men of Las Vegas; he was the son of a known Pittsburgh gambler. Stupak’s father was a man who operated a floating craps game in the city of Pittsburgh. Stupak followed in his father’s footsteps for the love of the gamble and when he was old enough, he moved to the capital of uk casino gambling, Las Vegas.
Bob Stupak original hit the Las Vegas scene selling 2 for 1 coupons which at the time were considered a great big scam so he moved away to Australia for a while and tried the same business practices and the government sent him flying straight back home because of his undesirable tactics of doing business in Australia.
In 1974, Bob Stupak was able to raise enough money to begin Bob Stupak’s World Famous Historic Gambling Museum. The museum open on March 31st and burned to the ground on May 31st and came as no surprise to those who knew Stupak that arson was suspected. Still, the insurance company eventually settled and in 1979, the notorious Vegas World opened.
Vegas World was a phenomenal concept which brought in so much business because of the promotions of Bob Stupak that the casino grossed over 100 million dollars per year in the eighties. Stupak proved he was unmatched in promoting his casino with coupons and other neat gimmicks that drove the players through the doors of Vegas World. He was the inventor of the VIP Vacation Package and the packages sold like hot cakes enabling Bob Stupak to build on a new hotel tower to his existing property. The tower is still part of the Stratosphere property.
Bob Stupak lived high during the early days of Vegas World. He was a documented gambler and even though his marketing strategies paid off in a very big way, it is certain that Bob Stupak lost a lot of his money gambling in neighboring uk casinos. Bad business management practices during expansion would later be cited for numerous problems as well.
When Stupak chose to expand Vegas World, he made himself the general contractor and quickly cost himself large amounts of money and relieved himself of the position after backing himself into a financial mess. Bob Stupak pulled out all the stops as he tried to encourage memberships into the Stratosphere Club but the memberships were too expensive and not worth the price so this Stupak Scam was certain to fail and so was his Stratosphere. During this time, Stupak continued to sell the vacation packages and he sold more packages than he had rooms so ultimately he put his gambling guests out in cheesy hotel rooms in nearby dumps that he owned. Some players like to play internet bingo games.
Bob Stupak’s dreams for Vegas World eventually crumbled. He was in a motorcycle accident in 1995 and broke a number of bones in his face and was lucky to survive. He will always be remembered for his scams and his gambling as well as Vegas World and the Stratosphere but there are many things he should be remembered for and some of those are unmentionable and others are honorable. Stupak has lived a very diverse life as a complicated man with many different facets to his personality and his life. |
